Older Savage Axis rifle actions have both 6-48 with most newer rifles being manufactured with 8-40 screws.   All new Savage center fire rifles that have a serial number beginning with “P” require 8-40 screws.  Savage Ultralight and Timberline centerfire models require 8-40 screws.
